Reviews & Testimonials

For Stronger Than

“A powerful picture book about a Black Choctaw child discovering who he is.”

– Booklist, starred review

“Dante finds his way toward sound sleep, and the understanding that ‘we come from people stronger than fear’ in this thoughtful picture book.”

– Publishers Weekly

“There is warmth and beauty here, and readers learn not only about the tragedy in Dante’s family history, but also the joyful cultural elements they revel in, like devouring fruity walakshi dumplings together and playing Choctaw stickball.”

– The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books

For Spinning Toward The Sun

“SPINNING TOWARD THE SUN is exactly the anthology I was looking for when planning book adoptions for the composition class I was teaching. I was hoping to find an anthology with well-written essays that would empower students in their own writing, and this book more than delivers! These excellently crafted essays, written by diverse authors on a range of topics related to the craft of writing, have not only resonated strongly with students but have also helped build community in the classroom!”
